Chris Franckowiak lives in the port city of Manistee, Michigan. Manistee is on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and sees about 35 ships a year. Chris has been interested in ships since the age of 8 and has been hooked ever since.

He has taken a trip on the steamer ALPENA from Alpena, Michigan to Duluth, Minnesota and back.
In August of 98' Chris was able to take another ride on the Steamer Cuyahoga of Lower Lakes Towing, from Cleveland, to Toronto, then over to Nanticoke and finally Detroit.
He also has been featured in the Traverse City Record-Eagle, a major northwest Michigan newspaper for his endeavors in the Great Lakes Shipping Industry. He also runs a section in the Manistee newspaper about vessel traffic and news in Manistee.
Chris regularly attends the Engineer's Day festivals at the Sault Ste. Marie locks, where ships pass within an arms reach.
He writes stories for the Great Lakes/Seaway log, as well as the Great Lakes and Seaway Shipping web site.
Chris has been taking pictures of ships for a long time and has quite a collection. He looks forward to a career in the Great Lakes Shipping Industry, where he can be near his love of ships. Chris can be contacted at:
