Lost Mariners Remembrance

Event highlights will include a lantern vigil at the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald anchor, ballads with Lee Murdock, a color guard escort of the memorial wreath to the Detroit River for receipt by a flotilla of Great Lakes vessels.

This program is SOLD OUT. Any released tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. As always, there is no charge if you wish to view only the outdoor portion of the program. Please call (313) 833-1801 with any questions.

 6 p.m. A lantern ceremony at the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald anchor remembers her crew on the 35th anniversary of the ship's sinking.

6:20 p.m.  Lee Murdock performs in DeRoy Hall.

7:00 p.m. Assembly of the Lost Mariners honor guard, the honor guard will be escorted by bagpipers and a bugler to the river's edge with the Lost Mariners memorial wreath.

7:30 p.m. Renowned marine artist Robert McGreevy tells the story of the brave lifesaving crews who patrolled the Great Lakes. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the United States Coast Guard, formed from combined units of the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Life-Saving Service.

8:00 p.m.  The event concludes with a memorial prayer and benediction followed by Lee Murdock's rendition of Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
