17th Annual Boatnerd Gatherings

2017 Schedule

Annual Badger Boatnerd Gathering
We regret to announce that Boatnerd will no longer be hosting a special trip on the S.S. Badger. In previous years, the big attraction was tours of the pilothouse and engine room of this historic vessel. The rules have been change and the public are no longer permitted access to these areas. However, excellent videos have been posted on the Badger website at www.SSBadger.com/vidoes. Other excellent videos showing the operation of the Badger are available on YouTube.

Shore lines cruises are offered several times each season for those who would would like to experience the Badger but not make the crossing.

June 29-July 2 - Engineer's Weekend at the Soo

Thursday, June 29 - Unofficial Boatnerd Picnic
NOTICE! With 90-100 percent chance of rain forecast for Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, the location of the annual Boatnerd Picnic has been changed from our usual Rotary Park to Sherman Park, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Snacks and coffee will be offered before noon, grilling begins at noon, with carrot cake and other delicacies to follow. Hot dogs, hamburgers, buns and condiments are being provided by Boatnerd. Bring something to share (salad, chips)! Soo delis and groceries have food options to purchase and bring to the park. Bring your own beverage.

The park, which has an enclosed pavilion and a covered area for grilling, is located west of the locks at 4th Avenue & 24th Street. If you are exiting from I-75 north, turn left (west) onto Easterday Avenue. That turns into 4th Avenue. Follow it to the end and the park is there. The park is on the water and we will still be able to view freighter traffic.
