May 25 – Lake St. Clair & River Cruise & BoatNerd Gathering
An all day cruise leaving Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit and traveling up to the Blue Water Bridges. Co-sponsored by the Marine Historical Society of Detroit and BoatNerd.com, the trip includes a continental breakfast and deli lunch on board, and a buffet dinner at the historic St. Clair Inn. May 30-31 - Boatnerd Badger Gathering
The 2008 Boatnerd Badger Gathering is the first big event of the boat watching season. A round-trip crossing of Lake Michigan from Ludington, Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 31, 2008, aboard the Lake Michigan Carferry S/S BADGER. Join us in traveling an the only coal-fired steamer left on the Great Lakes.

Enjoy a free concert by Lee Murdoch during the trip over and on the return trip.

Visit the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc and see the operating restored forward engine from the legendary railroad ferry Chief Wawatam, and the WWII submarine Cobia, or enjoy an optional two-hour Wisconsin Shoreline Cruise and Buffet aboard the Badger.

Special Boatnerd round-trip is only $70.00 per person.

Optional Friday night, May 30, Badger Boatel - $70.00. Stay overnight in a Badger stateroom. Staterooms sleep two at the same price. Includes Continental breakfast on Saturday morning. We need a minimum of 20 room reservations for Friday night, in order for this option to be available. Only 42 staterooms are available. Boarding will begin at 8:00pm.

Optional Saturday Wisconsin shoreline cruise - $29.00. Includes complimentary Badger Party Buffet, and free Lee Murdoch concert.

Optional Wisconsin Maritime Museum tour - $10.00 per person Boatnerd rate. Tell them you are a "Boatnerd". We will arrange a bus for transportation to the museum and back to the Badger dock, or you can walk the short distance along the river.

Saturday, May 31
9:00 am (ET) - Depart Ludington aboard Badger
12:00 pm (CT) - Arrive Manitowoc.

Shuttle bus to Wisconsin Maritime Museum OR re-board the Badger for

2:00 – 4:00 pm (CT) - Optional Wisconsin Shoreline Cruise aboard Badger

4:00 pm (CT) - Shuttle bus leaves museum for Badger dock, and the Badger returns from the Shoreline Cruise.

5:00 pm (CT) – Depart Manitowoc aboard Badger.

10:00 pm (ET) – Arrive Ludington

Important Information
.Reservations must be received no later than May 3, 2008. Checks for the full amount must accompany each reservation. Checks will not be cashed until May 6. If we do not receive enough reservations to activate the Badger Boatel, we will refund that portion of your reservation.
Reservations received after May 3, 2008 will be handled on an "If-Available" basis. Reservations will be confirmed by e-mail.

June 7 - Annual two-hour BoatNerd Cruise aboard the Huron Lady II
The boat leaves at 5 p.m. from next to the bridge in Port Huron for a cruise on the St. Clair River. BoatNerd price is just $13.00, but reservations are required. Call 810-984-1500 for reservations. Parking and other information is available at www.HuronLady.com



June 26 - 29 - Engineer's Weekend at the Soo

Thursday, June 26 - Unofficial Boatnerd Picnic
A spontaneous, informal gathering started in 2006 at Rotary Park at Mission Point, Sault Ste. Marie. Snacks will be offered at noon, grilling begins at 2 pm, and carrot cake and other delicacies at 4. Potluck.
BoatNerd Official Volunteer and Reporter Appreciate Day, hotdogs and buns are being provided by BoatNerd.Com.
Grills, plates, and utensils will also be provided. If you have questions please E-mail Lee Rowe  Grills will be provided, but anyone with a portable grill or canopy please contact Lee Rowe with the information. Bring something to share. Soo delis will have food options to purchase and bring to the park. Come one, come all and enjoy a great time with other Boatnerds. Name tags will be provided in case you don't recognize faces. Plan now to attend.

Friday, June 27 - 9:30 a.m. - Boatnerds gather on the steps below the MacArthur Lock for a group picture. Come early and get a name tag.

10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.- The Corps of Engineers will open the area between the MacArthur and Poe Locks, the Administration Building and the Davis Building to visitors. This is a once-a-year chance to see inside the Corps operation, and see passing freighters from a different angle.

2:00 p.m. - Memorial Bench Dedication
A brief ceremony dedicating a new park bench to the memory of Doug Fairchild  will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Mission Point. Everyone is invited to attend.

Saturday, June 28 - Daytime
Informal gatherings at Mission Point, weather permitting. Bring your best pix to compare and show. Bring your radio-controlled boats for an informal regatta.

6:00 p.m. - Annual Boatnerd Freighter Chasing Cruise
This annual trip aboard the Chief Shingwauk for a full three (3) hours leaving from Roberta Bondar Pavilion in Soo, Ontario. We will go where the boats are! Cruise will return at 9:00 p.m. Cost is $30.00 per adults and $20.. for children 12 and under. Price includes dinner. Cash bar on board.
