What is a Modoc Whistle ?

Where did the name Modoc Whistle come from and what is it?

The Modoc Whistle traces it's name back to when Bay City was the lumber Capital of the world.

The Modoc Whistle was a steam whistle made from a longer piece of steel pipe and it had a flutter reed in it to create a sound like the warhoop sound of the Modoc Indian. Its purpose was to warn other tugs and vessels that a raft of logs was in the area ,so that is why the unique sound was so useful and it could not be misunderstood as to it's meaning.
