Historical Perspective by George Thompson

This photo taken in 1937 shows the Daniel McCool outbound in Manitowoc River and in the background on the building ways at Manitowoc Ship Builders, the skeleton of the Standard Oil tanker Red Crown.  The first all welded ship fabricated at Manitowoc, the Red Crown later was named Amoco Indiana, then later became a cement barge (still in service as the Cemex Conquest).
