The transit of the Burton drew large corwds of Boatnerds along the Canal. This group were along the west side of the Canal just above Lock 7. Recognize yourself?

In the late afternoon of November 28, 1905, the Mataafa lies wedged to the shoreline of Duluth, MN with a lost rudder and all the blades broken from her prop after being impaled on the pierhead.
The next morning, with her aft crewmembers frozen into the upper deck and her consort barge James Nasmyth about a mile offshore in the background, the broken Mataafa looks for the lifesaving service.
