8/20 - Historical Perspective - by Brenton Michaels/JonPaul Michaels Oct. 5, 1967 Str. J. F. Schoelkopf Jr. collided with the old Zilwaukee Drawbridge over I-75. The Schoelkopfs steering failed as they approached the bridge and the Captain maneuvered his vessel to avoid striking the lift portion which would have closed Interstate 75 which is the main north/south thoroughfare in Michigan.
