Buffalo, N.Y. Sunday -

1-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (88347 bytes)
Eextreme East end of the Union Ship Canal with the tug Jaclyn and her work barge tied down for the weekend.
2-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (114258 bytes)
Jaclyn tied to her work barge.
3-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (104409 bytes)
Jaclyn is seen with the redeveloped shore line of the ship canal in the background where the Pennsylvania Rail Road's Hulett and Brown Hoist unloaders once roamed.
4-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (151351 bytes)
The work barge is tied up to the mooring bollards from the old Hanna Furnace Ore Dock.
5-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (94213 bytes)
Looking West we can see that the entire property around the canal is being completely redone into parkland.
6-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (171088 bytes)
The redevelopment plan also includes historic interpretation. Here a length of rail has been welded back in place where the old track for the Hanna Furnace ore bridges has been uncovered and restored.
7-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (152052 bytes)
This view looks up the track for the dockside bridge cranes. You can see that a new walking path has been built between the run of rails and old, left over Taconite pellets are laying on the ground.
8-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (101943 bytes)
The new road signs pay tribute to the original owners of the property - the Susquehanna Iron Co. Another nearby street is named for the last operator when the plant closed - The Hanna Furnace Co.
9-Jacklynn-7-31-11-BW.jpg (196319 bytes)
Here is the new sign at the entrance to the canal property bearing the newer name from the 1920's. This was originally called the "Goodyear Slip" in honor of the owners Frank & Charles Goodyear that started the whole thing back in the early 1900's.

This shot is similar to the number 7 shot I took today showing the ore docks at Hanna Furnace.
