Moving the Algoma Discovery to Drydock on Sept 10/11 -
Paul Beesley
1-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (51319 bytes)
Algoma Discovery came down the canal and anchored in Lake Ontario before returning to the canal.  Here she is entering Port Weller piers with the tugs Seahound and Molly M I in attendance.
2-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (56150 bytes)
The tugs are ready to assist with the docking below Lock 1, while the pilot boat follows the Lynx outbound.
3-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (75380 bytes)
Mollie M I at the stern.  The Discovery was loaded and this complicated the procedure.
4-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (93841 bytes)
Seahound at the bow.  Once the Discovery was secured she took fuel to get her onto an even keel in preparation for taking the blocks in the dry dock.
5-canoly-9-10-11.jpg (50428 bytes)
While all this was going on the Canadian Olympic passed upbound toward Lock 1.
6-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (62413 bytes)
Above Lock 1 the tugs prepare to turn the Discovery to take her into the dock stern-first.
7-algdis-9-10-11.jpg (71253 bytes)
To facilitate moves into and out of the dry dock the Seaway closes the floodway east of Lock 1 and increases the water depth in the level between Locks 1 and 2.  Despite this a wee bit of mud just north of the dock gates caught the Discovery for a short spell before she moved into the dock.  The Molly M I assisting.
