Tug Jacklyn, her barge, Gateway Metroport's crawler crane, and the new pedestrian bridge on the Union Ship Canal Saturday.
2-Jacklyn-12-24-11-BW.jpg (146454 bytes)
A special cradle that has been installed on the barge to hold the bridge for transit up the canal for installation at the new park located above the span seen crossing over the background.
3-Jacklyn-12-24-11-BW.jpg (188844 bytes)
This opposing view shows the new bridge and an better look at the large crane needed for the lift as seen looking out towards the Union Ship Canal's entrance with the South Side Lighthouse in the background.
4-Luedtke-12-24-11-BW.jpg (107865 bytes)
Luedtke's dredge equipment has all been tied down at the Cargil Pool Terminal Elevator on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. Crystal clear skies & a dead calm lake made for a near mirror finish reflection off the water.
1-Jacklyn-12-23-11-BW.jpg (97523 bytes)
Gateway Metroport dock on the Union Ship Canal with the new bridge to the left, the dockside crane rigged up to lift it, and the tug Jacklyn with her barge ready to take the load Friday.
2-Jacklyn-12-23-11-BW.jpg (94585 bytes)
Here is a closer view of the new bridge span. You can see a newly fabricated yellow framework on the barge to accept the bridge for transport up the Union Ship Canal.
3-Jacklyn-12-23-11-BW-021.jpg (173721 bytes)
The barge seems to be either ballasted, or weighted with the payloader to off set the bridge once it's on board.
4-Jacklyn-12-23-11-BW.jpg (224424 bytes)
The smaller bike path bridge has been removed from the foundations in the foreground and placed on the dock in the background for the passage of the Jacklyn and her barge further up the canal.

Algoma Progress below Lock 2.  The road along the Canal below Lock 2 is closed for the winter; as a result, the geese are enjoying the freedom and all the grass that is now within their reach.  Christmas Goose, anyone?
2-calum-12-20-11-pb.jpg (69420 bytes)
Calumet chugs along above Lock 2.  The clouds in the background resemble mountains.
3-calum-12-20-11-pb.jpg (101482 bytes)
A flotilla of firemen on the focsle of the Calumet.  No smoke was visible, must have been a familiarization tour.
4-calum-12-20-11-pb.jpg (86325 bytes)
The canal provides lovely reflections all through the shipping season.
5-ruthth-12-20-11-pb.jpg (90518 bytes)
