Coast Guard rescues man from sinking boat in Saginaw Bay - Coast Guard Station Saginaw River

The bow of a sunken 18-foot Boston Whaler sticks out of the water after sinking in Saginaw Bay, Aug. 5, 2013.

The boat was taking on water and later abandoned when dewatering attempts by rescue crews could not keep up with the flooding.

This view shows the Ferry St. Lift Bridge with the tug Cheraw and her derrick boat McCauley tied up in Black Rock Harbor.

The tug Sea Eagle II & the barge St. Mary's Cement II are laid up in Lackawanna at the Gateway Metroport Terminal. The salt piles next to the barge now occupy the old Bethlehem Steel Ore dock.

The Lackawanna Canal is to the bottom of the photo, the abandoned Bethlehem Steel Coke Ovens at mid-left, the open lake to the upper left, Buffalo Harbor to the top, and the Union ship Canal to the upper right.

The Memphis Belle turns to Starboard over the Peace Bridge & Black Rock Canal. The original entrance to the downtown Buffalo section of the Erie Canal is the small slipway to the lower right.

Point Abino Light is in the distance off the Canadian shore.

The Canal Side & Harbor Place skyscraper developments. The confluence of the Commercial Slip, the Erie Canal, & the Main - Hamburg Canal is taking shape as seen in the concrete work to the left of the photo.

View of downtown Buffalo. The Missile Cruiser USS Little Rock can be seen in the Watson Basin along the Buffalo River. Other prominent features are the Skyway Bridge & Coast Guard Base to the lower right.

Twin South Grand Isle Bridges on the Niagara River with the Noco Product Terminal pier to the bottom of the photo. This is the last operational commercial dock this far down the river.

Aug. 5 - St. Marys Challenger departing South Chicago - Lou Gerard

St. Marys Challenger approaches 106th St. after her almost 2 week layup.

The Challenger meets the Algosoo at 92nd St. The Challenger was heading for Alpena MI. and a contract load for Lafarge to Detroit.

The Algosoo moored at the North American Salt Dock at 92nd St. with some sort of steering problem.
