Mapleglen, the third Canadian vessel to bear that name, was launched Jan. 19, 1981, at Hoboken, Belgium, for Federal Commerce & Navigation Co. as Federal Maas. In 1994, she was sold to Lake Michigan Inc. and renamed Lake Michigan. The ship continued Seaway service, and visited the Great Lakes frequently between 1995 and 2008.

Lake Michigan was sold to Canada Steamship Lines and registered in Montreal on Oct. 22, 2008. She continued service as Lake Michigan for the remainder of the season, and was renamed Mapleglen in 2009. She served CSL until Dec. 24, 2014, when she tied up in Montreal, then was sold for scrap as part of the company’s fleet modernization program.

Mapleglen was sailed to Aliaga, Turkey, by a CSL crew, departing Montreal on September 27, 2015 (shortly after former fleetmate Birchglen made the same one-way voyage).
