Built by Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. of Chester, PA as hull # 335 as part of an emergency tanker building program during World War II. Launched on February 12, 1944 as the T2-SE-A1 tanker BOUNDBROOK for the U.S. Maritime Commission and managed by the Marine Transport Lines Inc. of New York, NY for the remainder of World War II. Dimensions: 523' 06" loa x 68' 02" beam x 39' 02" depth; 10,317 GRT 6,168 NRT. Capacity 141,200 bbl. Powered by a 7,240 shp steam turbine driving an electric generator/motor.

The BOUNDBROOK was sold in 1947 to Imperial Oil Co. Ltd. of Montreal, Que. and renamed IMPERIAL EDMONTON. The IMPERIAL EDMONTON sailed global routes primarily on the Pacific Ocean and later on the Atlantic Ocean until November of 1958.

She was sold to St. Lawrence & Great Lakes Shipping Co. Ltd. of Toronto, Ont. (managed by Upper Lakes Shipping Co. Ltd.) for conversion to a Great Lakes bulk carrier. Conversion began at Port Weller Dry Docks at St. Catherines, Ont. in June 1959. Her tanker hull was removed from just forward of the engine room and a new forward hull (#28) with 6 cargo holds, a new forward pilot house and accommodations was built in the winter of 1959 - 60. The vessel was renamed RED WING after the Detroit Red Wings hockey team in honor of the long association with Upper Lakes Shipping founder James Norris and his two sons James D. and Bruce, who at that time, owned the National Hockey League team. New dimensions: 730’ 00" loa x 75' 00" beam x 39' 03" depth; 17,813 GRT 13,672 NRT. Sailed on maiden voyage as RED WING on August 10, 1960 bound for Sandusky, OH to load coal for Hamilton, Ont. Ownership changed to Upper Lakes Shipping Co. Ltd. in 1960. A bow thruster was installed in February 1976 at Port Colborne, Ont.

The RED WING was laid up for the final time at Toronto, Ont. on December 15, 1984 and was sold for scrap on April 18, 1986. The RED WING sailed under her own power on June 10, 1986 to Quebec City, Que. On June 13 along with fleetmate FRANK A. SHERMAN, the two were towed to Lauzon, Que. and on October 27 they were towed out in tandem by the tug CANADIAN VIKING bound for Taiwan. West of the Panama Canal on December 31 the RED WING was almost lost in heavy weather encountered on the Pacific Ocean. The tow reached Kaohsiung, Taiwan on April 30, 1987 and five days later scrapping commenced.
