Scott Misener (3) 1954 - 1990

Built by Port Weller Dry Docks Ltd. of Port Weller, Ont. as hull #14. Launched and christened as SCOTT MISENER (3) on May 26, 1954 for Colonial Steamships Ltd. of Port Colborne, Ont. Commissioned on July 5, 1954 and sailed from Port Arthur, Ont. on July 8, 1954 with her first cargo of grain. Dimensions: 685' 00" loa x 72' 00" beam x 37' 00" depth; 21,500 GRT 10,328 NRT. Cargo capacity 22,000 tons. Power: 1942 built steam turbine engine salvaged from a sunken salt water tanker. The SCOTT MISENER (3) was the first lake ship to load a record 800,000 bushels when she loaded a cargo of barley at Fort William, Ont. on October 16, 1954 bound for Port Colborne, Ont. Another record was set when the SCOTT MISENER on August 24, 1956 delivered 22,500 tons of ore to Buffalo, NY. Colonial Steamships Ltd. changed company name to Scott Misener Steamships Ltd. in 1959. On October 15, 1973 the SCOTT MISENER (3) struck bottom near Whaleback Shoal on the St. Lawrence River damaging sixty bottom plates. The ship proceeded to Port Arthur Shipyard for dry docking and repairs from October 20 – 28th. Final lay up was on May 10, 1990 at Sorel, Que. never to sail again. On June 7, 1990 the vessel left the lakes under tow of the Soviet flagged tug LEOPARD bound for Alang, India. Arrived at Alang on October 31, 1990 and scrapping commenced.
