At Anchor
By Al Miller

Once the inspection and paperwork are finished, the boarding party gathers on deck for the trip down the gangway and back aboard the pilot boat, which has been standing off some ways from the boat. The pilot boat also picks up and drops off the licensed pilots who assist shipmasters in navigating the Great Lakes. It’s also common for the boat to ferry sailors who may be leaving or joining the ship, or who need to visit a doctor or dentist.
