Below are images of the Boatnerd Gathering held at the Soo Locks June 27 - 30, 2002
The third annual Boatnerd Gathering at the Soo got off to a bang as the Buckeye and Stewart J. Cort locked through Friday morning. Traffic continued through out the day and was followed by the Parade of Tugs Friday evening. Dozens of decorated tugs pass through the harbor and through the locks.
The high light of Saturday was a "Freighter Chasing Cruise" through the locks and up the St. Marys River. Over 120 people enjoyed the trip aboard Lock Tours Canada's Chief Shingwauk (Official Soo Locks Tour Boat of the Boatnerd Web Site). Passengers enjoyed dinner and meeting the other viewers of this web site as Captain John Chomniak and his crew took the tour boat on a fantastic cruise.

My thanks to everyone who joined us at the Soo and those who made the weekend possible.
Dave and Janet Wobser for planning and organizing the events. Captain John Chomniak, Pauline Chomniak and the friendly crew aboard Soo Lock Tours Canada's Chief Shingwauk. Each year Lock Tours Canada has treated us to an unforgettable cruise.
Lock Tours Canada is the Official Soo Locks Cruise line of the web site and caters to boatwatchers. Delays crossing the board were minimal and worth the trip for a tour of the locks and river.
The Chief Shingwauk runs regular Sightseeing Cruises (visit the link below for a schedule) and also offers Dinner Cruises and Private Charters.
See you next year, the last Friday in June
Our Gathering series continues Saturday, July 13, 2002 on Fawn Island in the St. Clair River
