Red Herring sinks off Sheboygan Wisconsin

Last night was an example of no matter the time of year, the Great Lakes can be violent. The Toronto-based, 40′ racing boat Red Herring was lost early this morning off Sheboygan, Wi when her rudder snapped off in a storm causing her to rapidly take on water while transiting from Mackinac to Chicago for this weekends CYC Race to Mackinac. Her crew of 7, which includes Olympians and America’s Cup racers, were rescued by USCG station Sheboygan. Several other boats making the southbound passage also suffered damage and have withdrawn from this weekends race.
