Ojibway runs aground in Seaway
Update: The Ojbway was moving again in the early afternoon and, after turning around, resumed her downbound voyage.
Monday at around 2 a.m., the bulk carrier Ojibway ran aground just east of Cardinal, ON., in the St. Lawrence Seaway. According to Michael Folsom’s Seaway Ship Watchers Network on Twitter, she is around off Sparrowhawk Point on the U.S. side. Crews are currently assessing the ship and developing a plan to release her, however she is not believed to be hard aground. She was on her way to Port Cartier from Hamilton with grain. There are no injuries or known damage to Ojibway. Information widely circulated on social media recently indicates the vessel will be retired at the end of this season.
