Cuyahoga towed to Kingsville to unload

The fire-damaged Cuyahoga was towed into Kingsville, ON, Thursday evening, arriving about 9 p.m. McKeil Marine’s tug Ecosse was at the bow and tug Stormont was on the stern. The arrival was not without incident, as the vessel ran aground on her way into the harbor.

Photos showed her minus her port anchor, which had to be cut away as there was no power to raise it. They also showed a ladder over the starboard side near the bow with what appeared to be a workboat tethered to it.

Cuyahoga was carrying a cargo of stone for Kingsville when she was disable by an engine room fire off Point Pelee in Lake Erie Tuesday night. The stone cargo will need to be unloaded at Southwestern Sales Co. before Cuyahoga is taken for repairs, lay up or retirement. Power is being provided by auxiliary generators. There is no information available as to what the future has in store for the 1943-built lakes veteran.
