Ship Carrying Yachts Expected in Sarnia Soon

May 31, 2026

The cargo vessel Annette A. Desgagnes, traveling from Port Everglades, FL, is due to arrive June 3 or 4 in Sarnia, ON. She’s carrying 16 yachts loaded under and on deck that will spend the summer on the Great Lakes. She will stop briefly in Montreal for her Seaway inspection and then head to Sarnia to unload.

Each yacht sits in a special frame welded to decking and is securely strapped down. The cost to ship the yachts is approximately $2,000 per foot, so a 50-foot yacht would cost around $100,000. Even at that, it can be more cost effective than sailing them the 3,800 miles up to the Great Lakes due to fuel, crew and wear and tear from going through Seaway and Welland Canal locks, which can cost as much as $3,800 in tolls.

In the fall, the yachts will travel back to Florida the same way. The cargo was booked through Florida-based Cross Chartering Yacht Transport, which specializes in heavy lift and customized yacht transport in North America, the Mediterranean and Asia.
